The temporary Material Recovery Facility (MRF) shed caught fire at Indira Nagar-Chimbel on Wednesday and arson is suspected to be behind the incident.
The baling machine and other machinery, costing several lakhs, were damaged in the fire. According to sources, some miscreants put fire besides the shed which later spread to the waste stored in the MRF.
Incidentally, this is the third instance that fire has engulfed the shed.
Some locals informed the fire brigade and two fire tenders from Panaji were used to douse the fire.
Chimbel Sarpanch Chandrakant Kunkolkar, panch Mohan Narve and others visited the site to take stock of the situation.
