Translated Portuguese book release, talk today

Camões-Centro de Língua Portuguesa is organising the release of the book ‘Life Stories’, an English translation of ‘Vidas Partilhas’ by Maria Elsa da Rocha and published by Goa 1556 on January 10 at 5.30 pm at Casa Basílio Dias, 1st Floor, Rua de Ormuz Road in Panaji. There will be talks and reading sessions too at the event. The translator, Paul Melo e Castro, lecturer of Portuguese and Comparative Literature, Glasgow University, and member of the thematic group ‘Pensando Goa’ of University of São Paulo, will deliver a talk titled ‘Found and Lost: the Goan writers Maria Elsa da Rocha and Vimala Devi in English Translation’ before a reading session of extracts of the books Vidas Partilhas / Life Stories and Monção / Monsoon. Cielo Festino, another renowned scholar of ‘Pensando Goa’ and Professor of Literature at Universidade Paulista, Brazil, will be doing the introduction. Interested participants can also follow online on the Camões-CLP YouTube Channel. Public advised not to fly kites near airport

PANAJIA kite was observed flying in the vicinity of Goa International Airport last month, according to a letter from The Captain (Air) for Commanding Officer, INS Hansa Dabolim to the District Magistrate, South Goa. The area the kite was fying in falls in the flight path of low-level helicopter flying which can have serious implications on flight safety.
