V M Salgaocar Foundation is pleased to announce the selection of Murali Ranganathan, a Mumbai-based historian, writer and translator, for its inaugural Scholars-in-Residence Programme 2024 - 2025. The programme received more than 30 applications from writers and scholars from across India, and the scholar was selected by a Selection Committee. The scholar will be provided with a 30-day residency in Goa with accommodation and an honorarium. Ranganathan is currently researching and writing a book on The Discovery of Print in Goa, the history and historiography of over five centuries. He researches nineteenth century South Asia and his areas of interest include the history of the book, print history and culture, travels and travel accounts, history of photography, newspapers and periodicals, public performance and entertainment, and the Bombay Country Trade. He has written extensively on the print history of Mumbai in the twentieth century.
