‘No work till demands of villagers considered’

MARGAO: Navelim MLA and Fisheries Minister Avertano Furtado on Sunday asserted that he will not allow work on the Western bypass to commence till suggestions and demands of villagers of Navelim and Telaulim are taken into consideration.
Avertano told The Goan on Sunday that he is well aware of the sentiments of the villagers of both Telaulim and Navelim, adding that nothing will be done that would inconvenience people.
Saying that actual work has not commenced on the bypass, he said that he had called the contractor to Navelim to explain to him the suggestions and demands raised by the people. “I have made it very clear from day one that the Western bypass will pass through my Navelim constituency only if adequate safeguards, including a flyover, are adopted by the authorities. This has been my stand from day one and will continue so till the government concedes the suggestions made by the residents of the twin villages,” he said. Avertano recalled that he had brought PWD Minister Sudin Dhavalikar to Telaulim to work out a solution to the two ancestral houses which come under the bypass alignment.
