Bull falls in roadside well, Loliem locals raise concern

CANACONA

Locals have raised concerns over an abandoned well by the side of the highway at Shellim-Loliem after a bull fell into the well and was later rescued on Friday evening.

Loliem-Polem Sarpanch Sachin Naik said he had received a call that a bull had fallen in the well at Shellim.

“I informed the fire services and the fire personnel along with the assistance of some local youth rescued the bull from the well.

A local, Vishant Prabhudesai, said the roadside well is unused and dries up in the summer.

“The well has been acquired by PWD (Highway), but poses a grave danger to people and animals alike as there is no protection wall,” said Prabhudesai.

Loliem-Polem Sarpanch Sachin Naik said similar incidents had occurred in the past, but the PWD was yet to close the well or construct a protection wall around it.

“The PWD should act immediately to close this unused well before further mishaps take place,” he added.
