Differently-abled child dies after falling in hot water tub

OLD GOA

A seven-year-old differently-abled girl succumbed to burn injuries after she fell in a hot water bucket in Old Goa on Monday.

The incident occurred at the St Xavier’s Training-cum-Production Centre for Children with Disabilities when children were getting ready for an evening bath at around 5 pm on Sunday.

The girl was among other children who were allegedly left unattended when she accidentally fell in the hot tub. Sources said she was rushed to a private hospital that recommended her treatment at Goa Medical College and Hospital, as she had sustained nearly 79 percent burn injuries.

The child succumbed to injuries on Monday, prompting a police complaint by the Child Welfare Committee and an inquiry by the Sub Divisional Magistrate.

“The girl, who was left unattended, accidentally fell into a hot water tub and sustained burn injuries. Later she was taken to the GMC where she breathed her last on Monday,” the Old Goa police stated.

The warden Rita Fernandes (51) and helper Meena Dabre (48) have been booked under Section 304-A (culpable homicide) of Indian Penal Code, Section 8 of Goa Children’s Act and Section 75 and 85 of Juvenile Justice Act 2015.

The police further said the victim’s father, who works in a private company in Odisha, has been informed about the incident. His statement will be recorded by the police. PSI Viraj Dhawaskar is conducting further investigations into the matter.
