The GCCI won the first edition of GCCI Alliance Cup 2023 played at the Panjim Gymkhana on Bandodkar grounds on Sunday. GCCI defeated GSIA by 26 runs in the finals. The Goa Police team defeated team Government of Goa for third place in the playoffs.
The participating teams were Government of Goa, Goa Police, Goa State Industries Association (GSIA), Travel & Tourism Association of Goa (TTAG), Verna Industrial Association (VIA) and Goa Chamber of Commerce & Industry (GCCI). The purpose of the event was to build up camaraderie between industrial associations and government agencies. The tournament was inaugurated by GCCI president Ralph de Sousa. It was a six-over tournament format with teams divided into two groups.
Sanjay Bhandari of Nestle’s was adjudged ‘Man of the Tournament’ and finals. Aakash Khaunte was named as the Best Bowler and Vartan Mathias was declared as the Best Batter. A special prize was given to Dr Sagar Salgaocar as the fittest player of the tournament. Aakash Khaunte was adjudged Man of the Match for two matches.
The prizes were given by GCCI president Ralph de Sousa, GCCI vice-president Pratima Dhond, Nitin Kunkolienkar, Manguirish N Pai Raiker and Rajiv Kumar of Fomento Resources. “The event was a big success and GCCI plans to make it an annual tournament,” stated GCCI president.
