Mistaken for miscreant, armyman assaulted

Aquem area witnessed an uproar on late Thursday evening after members of the public reportedly assaulted an army man mistaken him to be a miscreant.

The army officer, who was injured in the incident, was later brought to the Margao police station.

What caused the commotion and assault wasn’t clear, but sources said the army man was heading to the Margao railway station to catch a train.

When contacted, Margao Police station in-charge, PI Tulsidas Naik informed that the army officer was assaulted by some persons at Aquem. 

“We have brought the army officer to the police station. He was going to the railway station in a bus to catch a train. We are trying to find out what caused the incident”, he said.

Asked to shed light on reports that the army officer reportedly removed his weapon during the assault, PI Naik said the police have not come across any such report. He, however, hastened to add that the army officer has a licensed firearm in his possession.
