MARGAO
Margao police rushed to the Shree Shani Temple at Mandopa-Navelim on Thursday morning and took a person into custody to avert a law and order situation.
The police later booked the person under Section 151 of the CrPC and was later released.
A local resident Dilip Chawan alleged that the accused came near the temple and stopped work of laying the pavers. “We did not know who he was and later realised that he was a Hindu and hailing from Karnataka,” Chawan said, while demanding that the police initiate action against the person and those behind him.
The person, however, said that he had come to meet Chawan, adding that he has no idea what was filed in the Navelim panchayat body with his signature. “I had signed an application which was entered in the panchayat. I have no idea about the contents of the application,” he said.
Margao police said the issue is related to an RTI application filed with the panchayat body, adding that the commotion took place over a misunderstanding.
