As a safety advisory issued by some schools in the wake of purported kidnapping attempts of students created a panic situation on Tuesday, the Goa Police were quick to diffuse anxiety among parents.
But while the law enforcement agency downplayed any security threat, the patrolling teams including the Pink Police force have been asked to maintain strict vigil around the educational institutions and detain suspicious persons.
"...all staff of Robots/Highway Patrol/Pink Force/Robins to maintain patrolling nr (near) by the school, college area and if any suspected person found to be detained and brought at Police Station for enquiry," reads a wireless message to all the station in charges.
Director General of Police Jaspal Singh, during his routine meeting, opined to ensure police presence in public places.
The department has however advised parents to not believe in rumours.
"Some schools are issuing advisories on the basis of incidents of attempted kidnappings. It is clarified that no such incidents have been reported and there is no such trend. While it is important to take precaution we advise all to not believe in rumours as they might cause panic," the DGP tweeted late Tuesday night.
Sources claim that the management of a Margao school reported the attempted kidnapping of two of its students. No police complaint was filed though.
The Superintendent of Police (South Goa) Abhishek Dhania has meanwhile called for a press conference on Wednesday morning to 'brief the general public through media regarding facts and regarding rumour and mongering taking place that child lifters are moving in goa especially South Goa.'
