Urban Development Minister Vishwajit Rane has directed his department to begin issuing online birth and death certificates, as well as trade licences, with a digital signature.
He said the process will start from the next week.
“This will be done in accordance with the vision of ease of doing business envisioned by our Prime Minister Narendra Modi,” he said.
Rane chaired a meeting with officials from the Department of Urban Development, Ramesh Verma (Secretary for UD), Gurudas Pilarnekar (Director) and chief officers of municipal councils to review operations of the department.
He, however, warned municipal councils that funds will not be released to those civic bodies which do not submit audit reports and utilisation certificates on time.
"We discussed streamlining the functioning of municipal councils, awareness drives, mandatory auditing of accounts and all the rules and regulations regarding fund utilisation,” said Rane, while speaking to media persons.
Rane said he also directed all municipal councils to provide data about projects under construction and funds to be utilised for them.
The minister said the department will be focusing on utilisation of funds for various projects and awareness drives to sensitise public on Single Use Plastic Ban.
"I also advised them to work with the health department on fogging and other activities, and have directed the DMA to provide them with necessary equipment/machines,” he added.
