Did the Valpoi Municipal Council (VMC) demolish the illegal structures in the municipality for fear of being pulled up by the high court in a contempt petition?According to sources, the High Court had ordered the demolition of illegal constructions in Valpoi town about a year ago. However, municipal authorities did not demolish the structures and a person then filed a contempt petition in the court.
Fearing action from the high court for delaying in executing the order, the VMC quickly got into the act and began razing the illegal structures on Tuesday.
The VMC is expected to continue the demolition drive sometime between January 27 and January 31.
Sources have now informed that two residents had filed counter complaints against each other structures, claiming them to be illegally constructed. The court had directed authorities to demolish the illegal structures and the implementation had been delayed due to one reason or the other, compelling one complaint to file petition for contempt of court.
This prompted the VMC to act with urgency and while the illegal structures of one resident were demolished on Tuesday, the illegal structures of the other resident will be demolished sometime between January 27 and 30.
According to officials, a report on this matter will be submitted to the high court after the demolitions.
