1 convicted for impersonation in Sanguem, fined Rs 5,000

In a recent judicial development, Judicial Magistrate First Class, Sanguem, has convicted one Mario Fernandes for the offences of impersonation under Section 419 and 420 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). 

The judgement, pronounced on Thursday comes after a legal process that found Fernandes guilty of offences punishable under the mentioned sections of the IPC, as per Section 248 of the Criminal Procedure Code (Cr.PC).

The court has imposed a sentence of one month of simple imprisonment for the offence under Section 419 of the IPC, accompanied by a fine of Rs 5,000. The fine is required to be paid within thirty days from the date of the judgement. In case of non-payment, the accused faces an additional 15 days of simple imprisonment. Additionally, Fernandes has been sentenced to three months of simple imprisonment for the offence under Section 420 of the IPC, along with a fine of Rs 5,000, which also must be paid within 30 days.

The prosecution, led by APP Anirudh Chimulkar, represented the State and presented arguments in the matter.

The court has ordered that if the fines are paid, they shall be forfeited to the government after the expiry of the appeal period. In default of the payment of fines, the accused will undergo concurrent sentences of simple imprisonment for the specified periods.
