A 108 GVK EMRI emergency ambulance crashed head-on into a roadside tree at Candolim in the early hours of Wednesday, leaving the driver and an attending nurse injured.
The impact of the collision extensively damaged the front portion of the ambulance, shattering the windshield and crushing the driver's cabin.
Both the driver and the attending nurse sustained head injuries in the accident. They were immediately shifted to the Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC) for treatment. Their condition is stated to be stable.
The circumstances leading to the accident were not immediately known and it was not clear whether the ambulance was responding to an emergency call or returning from an assignment at the time of the crash.
Police are expected to investigate the cause of the accident.
The damaged ambulance was later removed from the site to restore the flow of traffic.
