10-year-old boy, nine others rescued at Arambol beach

Ten tourists were rescued by Drishti lifeguards when nine of them had gone to rescue a 10-year-old boy who was struggling in the sea at Arambol on Friday noon.
According to reports, the incident took place at about 1.10 pm when about 60 people were swimming at Arambol beach.
A 10-year-old boy who was also swimming along with his family got caught in a rip current and started drifting seawards.
A group of five male tourists who were swimming in the same zone rushed to rescue the 10-year-old boy.
Around the same time, one male and three female family members of the boy spotted him in trouble and rushed to his aid.
All nine of them were trying to rescue the 10-year-old victim when they too got caught in a strong rip current and were in distress.
Drishti lifeguard Ramkrishna Shakshele spotted the tourists struggling for their lives and immediately relayed a message to the tower and called for a Jetski.
Shakshele reached towards the victims, while lifeguard Manoj Parab and Dattaraj Korgaonkar, also reached the spot.
All ten victims were secured and rescued by the two lifeguards and brought
back ashore.
On recovery, eight victims were found to be normal while two felt uneasy and
reported facing some breathing problems.
A 108 EMRI ambulance was summoned to the site and two of the rescued persons were shifted to Tuem Primary Health Centre.
One victim was discharged from the Tuem Primary Health Centre, while the
other was shifted to a hospital in Mapusa for further treatment.
