Villagers were promised a road between Madhalwada and Divanji temple in Morjim and a foundation stone was even laid in December 2016.
Fifteen months later, there is no sign of any road and angry residents have now threatened to demonstrate at the PWD (road division) office if the road is not constructed soon.
It may be recalled that former chief minister Laxmikant Parsekar had laid the foundation stone for a new road between Madhalwada and Divanji temple at Morjim on December 25, 2016, as part of works to improve, widen and hot-mix roads in Morjim panchayat.
However, work on the road between Madhalwada and Divanji temple is yet to begin and this has caused growing resentment in the area.
Speaking to The Goan, a local, Prakash Purkhe, said the land owner had given his NoC to the construction of the road. “Unfortunately, the PWD (road divison) has not paid attention to this work. PWD Minister Sudin Dhavalikar should take up this road construction work on priority,” said Purkhe.
Unhappy with evasive answers by PWD officials, locals have now threatened to stage a demonstration at the PWD (road division) office at Pernem.
When contacted, Mandrem MLA Dayand Sopte said dignitaries whose name featured on the foundation stone should have followed up. “I will write a letter to the PWD (road divison) office at Pernem,” assured Sopte.
