Two locals were admitted to GMC in serious condition after a group of tourists from Telangana assaulted four persons, including a hotel manager and a room boy, late Monday night in Calangute.
The group of tourists were later arrested for attempt to murder and lodged in police custody.
Police informed that the tourists numbering 15 went on a rampage outside Jude Guest House at Tivai-vaddo, Calangute and assaulted four persons, including the manager and the room boy, of the guest house.
Sources disclosed that initially a fight broke out among the tourists outside the guest house on the night on January 1. When the manager and the room boy tried to broker truce, the tourists turned on them and began to assault them.
In anger, the room boy, Remy Rebello, summoned two other friends. But the tourists then ganged up and seriously assaulted the two friends of the room boy.
On getting information, Calangute Police rushed to the spot and placed the tourists under arrest.
"Timely intervention of the police prevented the attack from turning ugly," said PI Jivba Dalvi.
The manager, Abhilash Patil, and the room boy, Remy Rebello, escaped with minor injuries, while the room boy's two friends, Raju from Calangute and Jayesh Bhandari from Sanguem, were badly beaten up by the tourists.
The seriously injured Raju and Jayesh Bhandari were shifted to Goa Medical Collage and Hospital, Bambolim where they are undergoing treatment.
Police has registered an offence under Sections 143, 147, 148, r/w 149, 323 and 307 of the IPC. Police have also attached a mini bus (AP-29-V-7779) which was used by the accused tourists. PSI Kirtidas Gaude is investigating further.
