A Fine Arts Documentary Photography exhibition of the 16th and 17th Century Churches of

Goa, highlighting Indo-Portuguese Architecture will be inaugurated at Francis of Assisi Church, Old Goa at the hands of Archbishop Patriarch, Filipe Neri Ferrao in the presence of Maria Ines Figueira, Director of Fundacao Oriente as the guest of honour on December 5.

Hosted by Se Cathedral, this exhibition is Payal Kakkar’s humble attempt in bringing out the beauty of these exquisite structures that dot the landscapes of Goa like ‘White Mantle of Churches’.

Here, 32 images will be on display which showcases her journey through a multi-dimensional world. “It is an attempt to convey a personal impression of not just what I saw but also of how I felt during the whole process of producing my works,” says Kakkar, who will also be speaking about her photo exhibition at the prestigious Goa Arts and Literature Festival (GALF) on December 7, 2018 at Abolim Hall, ICG from 2 to 2:40 pm.

“It is not often that the paths of contemporary art photography and heritage cross. Payal Kakkar’s work explores several dimensions of these sacred places, combining in one single frame spirituality, history and identity. The results are outstanding images that make us think that the whole is indeed more than the sum of its parts,” says Maria Ines Figueira, Director at Fundacao Oriente.

Self-taught fine arts photographer Payal Kakkar spent two years photographing churches in Goa. Giving a new dimension to architecture in the genre of documentary, the highly detailed and quality images reveal the true essence of the designs. This unique collection of photographs of the 16th and 17th Century Churches of Goa is an opportunity to see Goan churches within a National Heritage Monument.

Talking about her photography project that she’ll be taking across several countries, Kakkar says, “This has been a spiritual journey for me to photograph the Churches of Goa and experience its spirituality and rich culture.  Please come and experience my journey into the land of compassion, love, faith and devotion at my photo exhibition organised by Sé Catedral at The Church of St. Francis of Assisi from 5 th  Dec 2018 to 14 th  Dec 2018.”

The exhibition will remain open for public viewing till December 14 from 9 am to 5:30 pm.

“The Churches in Goa are beautiful not just by its architecture but also by its altars and the paintings. The altars and the paintings in the churches serve as visual catechesis to instruct the Christian faithful. ‘Ecclesiastical Goa’ is an attempt to highlight these paintings, the hidden treasures that are often ignored by the visitors to the church. This Exhibition will certainly bring awareness and create interest among the people to observe things minutely and to relish them thoroughly,” says Fr. Alfred Vaz, speaking about Kakkar’s works.
