2 areas in Socorro now under purview of Porvorim police

PORVORIM: Two areas in Socorro panchayat have now been brought under the purview of the Porvorim Police station.

Vaddem and Karem were the only two areas in the entire Porvorim constituency previously under the Mapusa police station, while all other areas were in the jurisdiction of Porvorim police station.

A notification to bring the areas of Vaddem and Karem in Socorro under the jurisdiction of Porvorim police station has been issued by Department of Home (General) on March 15.

With the inclusion of these two places, Porvorim police station will now cater to law and order in 28 different areas of Alto-Betim, Ramnagar, Patrakar colony, Pundalik Nagar, Housing Board colony, Police quarters, Customs colony, Torda Betim, Alto-Porvorim, Ambirna-Socorro, Porvorim Bazaar, Aradi-Socorro, Salvador-do-Mundo, Paithona, Britona, Penha-da-Franca, Pomburpa, Ekoshi, Betim (OP), Verem, Reis Magos, Nerul, Pilerne, Malim, Vaddem-Socorro, Karem-Socorro, Virlosa and Socorro.

Speaking to The Goan, Revenue Minister and Porvorim MLA Rohan Khaunte said only Vaddem and Karem, which are part of Socorro village, were previously under the jurisdiction of Mapusa police station.

“Residents in these two areas were required to go to Mapusa police station to register their complaints or for any other work. As such, there were demands from residents of Vaddem and Karem to include their areas in Porvorim police station. This demand was pending for quite a long time,” said Khaunte.

“I had assured people of these two areas during the assembly election in 2017 that if I were to get elected, I would fulfil their demand on priority basis. I have fulfilled my promise to residents of Vaddem and Karem.”
