CANACONA
Mishaps continue to hamper traffic along a stretch of the NH66 highway in Canacona, as a car plunged into a valley at Polem, while a container-truck with six SUV cars rammed into crash-barriers at Karmalghat Friday morning.
According to sources, one mishap took place at about 3.30 am when five occupants from Andhra Pradesh were returning after enjoying a stay in Goa and were traveling in a two-month-old SUV from North Goa to go to Murudeshwar in Karnataka.
Just minutes before reaching the Polem checkpost, a tyre blowout caused the vehicle to go off the road and fall into a valley at Polem.
None of the five occupants suffered serious injuries and escaped with minor bruises in the mishap.
The visitors, however, blamed the narrow road for the mishap.
“If the road was broad enough, we may have been able to control our vehicle on the road itself, but the car became uncontrollable and went off the road,” said one car occupant.
In another mishap, a container-truck carrying SUVs from Bangalore to Goa rammed into crash barriers at Karmalghat.
The container truck had blocked traffic along the highway.
