The two shops near Thoteshwar temple at Betim were gutted in fire in the wee hours of Wednesday, destroying goods worth Rs 4.50 lakh.
According to reporters, the Porvorim Fire Station received a call at around 1.25 am on Wednesday stating that a fire had broken out in one general store owned by Pramod Chodankar and a mobile shop owned by Dhanraj located at Betim.
The officer on duty Salim Sheikh along with a fire brigade rushed to the spot and since the shops were closed, they broke the locks of both shops and after about one-and-half hours, extinguished the fire.
Goods in general store worth Rs 1.5 lakh and mobiles worth Rs 3 lakh were destroyed in the fire.
The exact cause of fire is still unclear, said the fire officials.
