Taleigao p'yat poll process begins, Babush's panel files nominations

The electoral process for the 11-member Taleigao panchayat kicked off on Wednesday with the commencement of filing of nominations and the Goa State Election Commission notifying the coming into effect of the model code of conduct in the panchayat's jurisdiction.

Polling will be held on April 28 and on day one of the process for filing nominations members of a panel set up by Revenue Minister Atanasio (Babush) Monserrate have filed their papers.

Elections to the Taleigao panchayat are being held separately from the 180-odd panchayats of the State since 2005 when it had been carved out from the jurisdiction of the Corporation of the City of Panaji.

Pedestrian killed in hit-and-run mishap in Sirsaim

MAPUSAA 44-year-old pedestrian from Satara-Maharashtra died in a hit-and-run mishap near the panchayat office in Sirsaim on Wednesday evening.According to reports, the mishap took place at about 3 pm, when Rajendra Chavan along with his co-workers were painting a bungalow near the site of the incident.After lunch, Chavan had gone nearby while his colleagues were resting at the bungalow.Some passers-by noticed a person lying injured by the roadside and the word reached the…
