Pedestrian killed in hit-and-run mishap in Sirsaim

MAPUSA

A 44-year-old pedestrian from Satara-Maharashtra died in a hit-and-run mishap near the panchayat office in Sirsaim on Wednesday evening.

According to reports, the mishap took place at about 3 pm, when Rajendra Chavan along with his co-workers were painting a bungalow near the site of the incident.

After lunch, Chavan had gone nearby while his colleagues were resting at the bungalow.

Some passers-by noticed a person lying injured by the roadside and the word reached the co-workers. They rushed to the site and identified Chavan who was lying motionless.

Chavan was rushed in a 108 ambulance to the Mapusa District Hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival.

Injuries on the deceased indicate he had been hit by a vehicle.

Colvale PSI Vishnu Jadhav and Constable Harish Redkar conducted a panchnama of the incident and police are also verifying CCTV cameras in the area in a bid to trace the vehicle involved in the hit-and-run incident.
