Police arrested two persons on charges of taking photographs of vote caste prints on the VVPAT machine and for sharing it on social media.
“One person was arrested in Ponda and another one in Porvorim. These persons have been booked under Section 128 of the Representation of the People’s Act,” said Inspector General of Police Rajesh Kumar.
IGP Kumar said Gitesh Naik was arrested in Ponda for taking photographs while voting, but did not provide details about the accused who was arrested in Porvorim.
“There is a provision of two years imprisonment for a conviction under Section 128 of Representation of the People’s Act,” said IGP Kumar.
“After these two incidents, instructions were given to police and polling officers not to allow mobile phones inside the polling stations.”
IGP Kumar informed that a total of 5 cases had been booked for violation in the Model Code of Conduct.
In Bicholim, a car belonging to a politician was set ablaze on Sunday night, while a Flying Squad seized a cash of Rs 1,19217 in Collem. An FIR was also registered in Old Goa for preventing a person from casting a vote.
Meanwhile, the Chief Electoral Officer Kunal there were seizures worth a total Rs 12.72 crore during the election period, which included cash (Rs 6.658 crore), liquor (Rs 3.57 crore), gold and silver (Rs 2 lakh) and narcotics (Rs 1.25 crore).
