A bus breakdown on the New Vaddem slope in Vasco led to an oil spill on Saturday, creating a hazardous stretch that caused several two-wheeler riders to skid after rainwater mixed with the spilled oil.
The incident occurred on the busy New Vaddem road when the bus reportedly developed a mechanical fault, resulting in oil leaking onto the roadway.
With intermittent rain in the area, the oil spread across the surface, making the stretch extremely slippery. Several riders lost control of their two-wheelers while negotiating the slope and fell on the road. Though the mishaps caused panic among commuters, no serious injuries were reported.
On noticing the dangerous condition of the road, local residents alerted Congress leader Nandadeep Raut, who immediately informed the Fire and Emergency Services.
Fire personnel promptly rushed to the spot and carried out operations to remove the oil from the road. The affected stretch was cleaned, allowing traffic to resume safely.
The prompt response by the Fire and Emergency Services prevented further mishaps on the busy road, where traffic remained slow until the spill was completely cleared.
