Three of five tourists from Solapur, who assaulted a pay parking warden over a petty dispute on Republic Day on Thursday, have been arrested by the Panaji police. Two minor boys, also involved in the assault, are, however, let off without penal action.Victim Mayank Chaubey, a 28-year-old parking warden, alleged that the accused wrongly confined him in their vehicle and assaulted him for demanding a parking fee. The incident occurred on M G Road when the accused parked their vehicle in the pay-parking zone on Thursday evening.
“They threatened the victim to throw him off the Bridge, assaulted him and fled from the spot. We identified the vehicle through CCTV cameras and traced their whereabouts before they fled the State,” the Panaji police said.
The accused were later identified as Shabir Mujawar, Akash Savant, Santosh Waghmare, and two minor boys. “The three accused who are major in age are arrested and their vehicle bearing registration number MH-1-BA-0246 is seized for investigation,” the official said.
