3 women held for theft in Mapusa market
MAPUSA: Mapusa Friday market turned out to be a costly affair for a Bodiem woman, who was relieved of Rs 6,000 by women bag snatchers in the fish market.
Mapusa Police sources informed that the complainant, Ivy D’Souza from Bodiem-Tivim was buying fish in a crowded fish market in Mapusa.
As she was purchasing fish, three women quietly cut open her market bag amidst the melee and snatched her purse containing Rs 6,000 and other items and relayed it on to their colleagues who work in a chain.
On sensing the act, the complainant immediately raised an alarm.
The people around gave the three women a chase and finally caught them outside the fish market, but minus the purse.
They were thrashed by the public and then handed over to the police.
The three accused, Laxmi Jadhav, Saraswati Abigiri, Pakirama Gadadkar, all from Karnataka, were arrested by the police. Further inquiry is being carried out by Havaldar Vishnu Anurlekar.
