The Pernem Deputy Collector, Captain of Ports and Mines and Geology department jointly raided a sand extraction site near the Tiracol river and seized four boats and sand dumps on Thursday.
According to reports, sand was being extracted in the Chapora and Tiracol rivers, despite a ban on sand mining during the rainy season.
Pernem Deputy Collector Harish Adkonkar, Mines and Geology Department officer Ramnath Shetgaonkar, Captain of Ports Deputy Director P Shirsaikar conducted the raid near the Tiracol river.
When contacted, Pernem Deputy Collector Harish Adkonkar said the government has banned sand extraction during the monsoon.
“Action will be initiated till sand extraction is fully stopped during the ban period and to avoid such raids, the sand mafias should stop such illegal activities,” added Adkonkar.
