Verna police on Friday registered an offence against four persons, including the owner of a water tanker and septic tanker, after alert locals recently found sewage being transferred from a septic tanker into a water tanker in Sancoale.
Verna police registered an offence under Section 268, 269 read with 34 IPC against Nazir Sayed of Zorint-Zuariangar, the owner of the water tanker (GA-06-T-4683), Hazarat Patel Biradar of Birla, owner of the septic tanker (GA-04-T-0967), Zabi Ulla of Zuarinagar and Jairam (full details not known).
Verna police said the four accused with their common intention unlawfully acted in a negligent manner by transferring sewerage from the septic tanker (GA-04-T-0967) into the water tanker (GA-06-T-4683), fully aware that the water tanker is being used to supply/transport water for domestic purposes for the public.
Verna Head Constable Umesh Naik is carrying out a further investigation under the supervision of PI Diago Gracias and the guidance of Mormugao DySP Salim Shaikh.
It may be recalled that alert residents of Sancoale had found the septic tanker while loading sewage in the water tanker near the Sancoale Industrial estate.
Cortalim MLA Anton Vas later convened a joint meeting with FDA, RTO, health and police officials and instructed them to submit their reports within 10 days so that strict action could be taken against the accused who risked public health.
