Repair and hotmixing of the Nagarcem-Chapoli Road, which was dug up to lay a water pipeline four years ago, finally began on Monday.
The Rs 1.15 crore work was launched by a businessman and senior citizen of Nagarcem area Nilkanth Naikgaunkar in the presence of Canacona Municipal Council Chairperson Ramakant Naikgaunkar and others.
The Nagarcem-Chapoli Road has been in a bad condition ever since it was dug up about four years ago to lay a water pipeline from the Chapoli dam to NH66 opposite the KRC station road at Nagarcem.
Ward councillor Hemant Kumar Naik Gaonkar who has been following up on the hotmixing work since the last couple of years, expressed satisfaction that the work was finally launched and said it would benefit not only the people of Nagarcem, but the village of Chapoli as well.
“The Chapoli road was in very bad shape and residents from Chapoli and Nagarcem as well as visitors to the Chapoli dam were severely inconvenienced for many years.
CMC Chairperson Ramakant Naikgaunkar said the laying of a water pipeline was also a necessity, but admitted that people had suffered for a long period due to the bad road and said the hotmixed road would provide solace to them.
Among those present on the occasion included Shristhal Sarpanch Sejal Gaonkar, Cotigao Sarpanch Anandu Desai, Canacona Councillors Dhiraj Desai, Narcisco Fernandes, Shrishthal Panch Members Ganesh Gaonkar, (Poinguinim), BJP Canacona Mandal President Vishal Desai, Secretary Divakar Pagui, BJP (South) Vice President Mahesh Naik, BJP Mahila Morcha South Goa General Secretary Manuja Naik Gaonkar, BJP Canacona Mandal President Vishal Desai, Shrishthal BMC Chairman Vinay Tubki, CMC ex-Dy Chairperson Kishor Shet and PWD officials.
