The creation of two different Gram Panchayats for Curti and Khandepar villages and an inquiry into the CCTV cameras were among the number of issues discussed at the Gram Sabha of the Curti-Khandepar panchayat on Sunday.
At the meeting which was chaired by Sarpanch Sanjana Naik, the locals claimed that the population in Curti and Khandepar has risen sharply over the years and hence, there is a need to have bifurcate the Curti-Khandepar panchayat into two distinct panchayats for Curti and Khandepar.
They felt that two separate panchayats would balance the workload and the two bodies would be in a better position to serve the people in Curti and Khandepar.
The residents also demanded an inqury into the purchase of CCTV cameras. They claimed that 11 CCTV cameras were purchased during the tenure of the previous panchayat while the present committee purchased 15 CCTV cameras and only 7 CCTV cameras were operational.
The residents also questioned the appointment of workers for the collection of garbage.
They claimed that while only 32 workers were required for the job, a total of 52 workers have been registered on paper. They demanded the appointment of a new contractor.
The Gram Sabha was informed that a special committee would be appointed for the crematorium in the panchayat land and new rules to be implemented.
The land would have a Hindu smashanbhumi (crematorium), Christian cemetery and Muslim kabrasthan and all the three communities would have to follow Panchayat rules.
