Mormugao DySP Rajesh Kumar on Tuesday told reporters that five persons are involved in the murder of Umesh Harijan (33) in broad daylight on Monday afternoon.
“Initial reports had suggested that there were four persons involved in the crime, but investigations have revealed that another accused was also involved, taking the number of accused to five,” said DySP Kumar.
“We have arrested two accused, Amir Hussain and Deepak Sahani, on Monday night and these accused were produced before the JMFC and have been remanded to seven days in police custody. Three others are absconding.”
“The accused have been arrested under Sections 143, 148, 341, 323 and 302 of IPC, besides the Arms Act. We have found two sharp weapons on the site and we will get to know more details of the exact number of weapons used upon further investigation,” said Kumar.
“The post-mortem was conducted on the victim and the cause of death was lung injury caused by stabbing. The motive of the crime at the moment appears to be previous enmity and the exact motive will be established upon further investigation. This does not appear to be a case of gang war but a rivalry between two persons,” said Kumar.
He informed that additional police have been deployed in the area to prevent any untoward incident in retaliation to the murder.
