VALPOI
A traffic system for Valpoi was notified by the North Goa collector five months ago, in a bid to control traffic congestion in the town.
However, the notification is yet to be implemented by different authorities till date and as a result, traffic congestion continues to be a daily problem for motorists and commuters to and from Valpoi.
Valpoi is the hub of Sattari taluka, with various government offices, markets and commercial establishments located in the town.
People from all over Sattari visit Valpoi everyday for various requirements, but travelling within Valpoi has become a nightmare.
Lack of parking facilities adding to the misery of motorists and vehicles have been found parking in a haphazard manner, adding to the traffic congestion.
The Valpoi Municipal Council (VMC) had made efforts to set up a traffic plan for many years, but had been unable to implement it due to various reasons.
Five months ago, the North Goa Collector issued a notification regarding a traffic system and the notification prohibited parking of vehicles on both sides of the main road from Valpoi Court to Police Station. At that time, people had hoped that the traffic system in Valpoi would be regulated with the implementation of the traffic plan.
However, the notification is yet to be implemented, leaving residents and motorists to wonder which authority -- police, deputy collector or the VMC “ is responsible for implementing the notification.
With traffic continuing to rise in Valpoi and traffic jams frequently taking place during peak hours, the need to implement the traffic plan is being felt even more strongly than before.
