Upset over the dilapidated building of the Government Primary School at Sal-Bicholim, parents of schoolchildren started a protest to draw the attention of the government.

Bicholim MLA Dr Chandrakant Shetye met the agitators and said if there is a report that the building is really dangerous, a new building will be constructed and a shed will also be constructed at another place or on the side and alternative arrangements for children will be taken up.

He informed the agitating parents that Rs 9.5 lakh has been sanctioned for the repair work.

Dr Shetye said before that, a report on the structural integrity of the building will be received in a week and a decision will be taken after that report.

“If a new building is to be constructed, the government will need the support of parents in identifying alternative facilities,” he said.

Agitation not right approach: CM

BICHOLIM: Insisting that an agitation is not the right way, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said the government would either renovate the school building or construct a new one.

“If the old school building is declared unfit, the government will construct a new one but if repairs are needed, funds are sanctioned for it. However, an agitation is not the right approach,” said Sawant.

“If a building is to be constructed, the government will do so but parents should take the initiative to make temporary arrangements for children,” the CM added.
