6 persons assault man near Old Market circle, Fatorda police swing into action

As a video showing a group of persons mercilessly beating up a victim went viral on the social media on Monday morning, the Fatorda police swung into action to register a crime against six persons in connection with the incident.

Police have informed that the incident occurred at around 2.30 am on Monday opposite the Tanishq showroom near the Colva circle at Old market. The victim has been identified as Vijay, s/o Anil Kulal, aged-35 years, resident of Raloi, Curtorim.

In his complaint, the victim stated that on November 28, at 02.30 hrs, Opposite the Tanishq showroom, Near Colva Circle, he was assaulted by six persons, who wrongfully restrained and assaulted him with slaps and fist blows and kicks.

He further complained that one of the accused persons hit him with stone thereby causing him injuries.

In this connection, Fatorda police have registered an offence under section  143,147,341,324, 506(ii) r/w 149 of the IPC. The video also showed the victim being stipped after the assault.

Fatorda police station in-charge PI Girendra Naik informed that the victim is convalescing at the hospital.

To a question whether the incident is a result of a gang war between the two sides, PI Naik said the previous enmity is a cause behind the incident.

He said the police has detained one person in connection with the assault incident.

He said the victim has named three persons in connection with the assault on him, while the identity of the other three accused remains unknown. The accused persons are believed to be hailing from the jurisdiction of Maina-Curtorim police station, he added.

To another question of how the incident has taken place at the Old market circle when the two groups hail from the Maina-Curtorim Police Station jurisdiction, PI Naik said preliminary inquiries revealed that they had come from Colva.

The police is investigating.
