The Goa police will deploy 5000 personnel of its own and an additional 1000 armed policemen from outside the State at polling stations and in other sensitive areas to ensure smooth conduct of the elections to the two Lok Sabha seats and the by-elections to the three assembly constituencies on Tuesday.
Inspector General of Police Jaspal Singh said 26 polling stations have been identified as critical and another 21 vulnerable, and every step is being taken to make sure security measures are in place to tackle any eventuality.
Singh said, ever since the model code of conduct came into force, the Goa police has ensured that policing at the seven border check-posts has been heightened and almost every vehicle is being checked.
Fourteen polling stations of the North Goa parliamentary seat have been designated as ‘vulnerable’ and security measures will be maximum in the booth and in the area covered by it, Singh said. Similarly seven polling stations in South Goa have been declared vulnerable.
Besides, 26 polling stations - five in North and 21 in South - have been identified as ‘critical’, Singh said, adding that police personnel will be deployed at these polling booths as per the set guidelines of the Election Commission.
The 1,000 armed police personnel stationed in Goa from outside are drawn from the Border Security Force (BSF) and six companies are from the State of Kerala.
Police stage flag march in Vasco
VASCO: A flag march was staged in Vasco on Saturday evening by a team from the Vasco police and Kerala Armed Police.
According to Vasco PI Nilesh Rane, the flag march was staged to instill confidence among the locals.
“As a measure of confidence building among the locals and to ensure that no untoward incident takes place, a flag march was staged on Saturday evening from Chota Bazar at Baina to Mangor and Varunapuri junction.”
“Mormugao DySP Sunita Sawant was also present during the flag march. Vasco police along with the Kerala Armed Police participated in the flag march,” said PI Rane.
