With curtains coming down on the fortnight-long electioneering at 5 pm on Sunday, sitting MP Narendra Sawaikar and his challengers Francisco Sardinha (Congress) and Elvis Gomes of the Aam Aadmi Party have exuded confidence of wining the South Goa seat in the April 23 election.
While the sitting MP capped his campaign by holding a meeting a Madkai, three-time former MP Francisco Sardinha rounded up his campaign in coastal Benaulim with an interaction at Orlim on Sunday evening.
AAP had capped its campaign on Saturday with a motor rally which wended its way in most of the Assembly segments of the South Goa constituency.
“I am confident of retaining the seat. My candidature has revoked amazing response from the South Goa electorate. The last 15 days have been very hectic. We had around 350 meetings across the length and breadth of South Goa. People of South Goa want the return of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and they have all promised to vote for Modi through me,” he said.
On the other hand, Sawaikar’s challenger Francisco Sardinha was confidence personified as he pointed out that the people of South Goa have already decided to bring back the Congress to power. “Wherever I went, people have offered their support to my candidature, right from Mormugao to Salcete and Sanguem, Quepem, Canacona and Ponda,” he said, exuding confidence of wining the election.
AAP South Goa candidate, Elvis Gomes said though party volunteers from the Catholic community took a break on Easter Sunday, many other volunteers worked on the ground to tie all loose ends to give the party a victory in the election.
“My candidature has been well accepted by the people of South Goa. There were attempts made to derail my campaign by raising non-issues, but I am confident that people of South Goa will stand by AAP and give me a huge victory in the election,” Elvis told the Goan on
Sunday.
Though six candidates are in the fray for the South Goa Lok Sabha constituency, the battle has narrowed down amongst the candidates fielded by the BJP, Congress and AAP.
In fact, all these three candidates had left nothing to chance, using every mode and medium to reach out to the electorate spread across the 20 Assembly segments.
