Saying that CM Pramod Sawant was allowing MPT and Customs department to remain insulated as if absolved of their responsibilities under their respective statutes, AAP on Wednesday said it was time for the Directorate of Revenue as well as CBI to launch investigation in the matter.
Addressing the media, AAP convenor Elvis Gomes along with AAP seafarers cell in-charge Capt Venzy Viegas questioned the silence of the Customs department which he said had powers to confiscate the vessel as well as the cargo and even arrest those involved.
“It is time for the Directorate of Revenue as well as CBI to investigate,” he said, adding that it was a necessary step as there were vast revenue implications as duty was sought to be evaded by the owner of the cargo.
“DG Shipping, MMD, MPT, Customs, Coast Guard, Indian Navy, Port of Loading, port of first entry and local government are involved in finding a solution. But it appears that the CM is brought in the picture to camouflage the misdeeds of someone else,” Elvis asserted.
Capt. Viegas questioned how a Singapore company came in the picture and who had given the purchase order to such a company. He said that if it is the MPT or vessel owner or owner of the cargo issuing such an order, then why was the CM not allowing them to speak.
Capt Viegas who is a master mariner himself also said that naptha fumes are getting released into the atmosphere and the government instead of roping in pollution control board and NIO to check for possible pollution was keeping these agencies as far away as possible to protect someone else’s interest.
