The AAP volunteers of the Bardez gathered at State highway in Carrasvaddo and protested against lackadaisical attitude of the electricity department in shifting the poles which could lead to mishaps and even loss of lives. Later, the volunteers met the Electricity Department s EE, C H Rajgopalan and in a representation requested him to expedite shifting of the poles on priority basis. “Planning plays an important part in any work that is undertaken by the government. Hence, it is surprising to note that no action has been taken till date to shift the electricity poles,” said Pradeep Amonkar, AAP coordinator, Tivim in the representation. AAP decried the explana tion given by the electricity department that the municipal council and the PWD highway authorities failed to deposit the shifting fees in the department. AAP urged the EE to take quick and effective steps to coordinate with the other departments concerned to shift the electricity poles immediately. “Instead of passing the buck around, the department should take steps to immediately shift the poles before any accidents take place and lives are lost in the area,” Amonkar said. “Every job executed by the government should be planned in a way that least inconvenience is caused to the public,” the AAP representation said further. More than two months back, the PWD had undertaken the work to widen the State highway in Tivim constituency. The roads were widened and later even hot-mixed leaving the electricity poles in the middle and throwing the road open to motorists.
