The Benaulim MLA drew the attention of the Captain of Ports, Public Works Department, Water Resources Department, besides Collectorate and mamlatdar officials to attend to the issue on topmost priority.Wednesday saw the Benaulim MLA, along with Benaulim Sarpanch Remy Fernandes and Deputy Collector Ajit Panchwadkar, besides PWD officials, taking stock of the situation as fears have been raised by residents living along the course of the river that the entire embankment may collapse when the river flows in full spate.Caitu told the media after the inspection that he will ask District Collector Swapnil Naik to sanction funds to take up work on the collapsed embankments on a war-footing. “There s real danger to the embankments if no steps are taken to stop the soil erosion,” Caitu said.Deputy Collector Ajit Panchwadkar and the PWD officials said the affected sites need to be protected with sand bags to stop further erosion of soil.
