Aam Aadmi Party organized a massive protest against the government demanding that Pramod Sawant resign as Chief Minister just a day after the former Goa Governor Satya Pal Malik levelled serious charges of corruption against the ruling party.
In a press release, AAP stated that the protest was attended by more than 300 volunteers. Along with Sawant’s resignation, AAP also demanded a judicial inquiry against the allegations levelled by the former Goa Governor who was shunted out when he was trying to highlight the issue. The allegations made news all over India with #ResignPramodSawant trending nationally. The Goa Police suppressed the protest by manhandling several AAP leaders and illegally detaining them at the Agacaim police station.
AAP Goa convenor Rahul Mhambre stated that it is indeed shameful that the government made money out of people’s misery. “During times of crises, when everyone is trying to help others to tide over the pandemic and save lives, it is shameful that the BJP government made profits. There is no limit to their greed,” he said.
Mhambre said that the BJP in Goa has lost its moral grounds to run the state.
“We demand the immediate resignation of the Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant. We have organised a rally today to expose the corruption in the state,” he pointed out.
AAP leader Amit Palekar stated that AAP has highlighted the 10 failures of the Goa Chief Minister.
“At one stage, the percentage of cases were as high as 50 per cent in the state. Even during those times, the Chief Minister was only interested in filling his personal coffers rather than offering relief to the common man,” he said.
“So many Goenkars have lost friends, neighbours and relatives to Covid! But this government does not care! They were just busy making money while Goenkars were dying,” said AAP Goa Vice President Adv Pratima Coutinho.
“The CM has no moral grounds to continue. We condemn his corruption and the corruption of those who hopped parties to support him and those who gave ‘issue based’ support to him. He must resign! He must resign now!” said AAP Goa Vice President Capt Venzy Viegas.
“Only AAP is concerned with common Goenkars! BJP is only interested in making money out of the misery of Goenkars,” said AAP Goa Sr Vice President Mahadev Naik.
The release further states that while AAP had organised a peaceful rally, the peaceful protesters were also taken into police custody to prevent them from creating awareness among the people. The police used all their force to detain AAP leaders even manhandling AAP Goa vice presidents Sandesh Telekar Dessai and Adv Pratima Coutinho. The Goa police brutally suppressed the protest and manhandled many other leaders after that.
“The BJP can try to suppress us as much as they want. We will not be afraid of them or their misuse of the police. No amount of force will stop us from demanding the resignation of Pramod Sawant, whose rank corruption has caused the loss of Goan lives,” said AAP Goa convenor Rahul Mhambre.
While being detained by the police AAP Goa Vice President Valmiki Naik stated: “Pramod Sawant has stolen from Goenkars and the poorest of poor Goenkars especially when they were down and out! The time has come for him to resign.”
