Abandoned infant case: Youth faces rape charges under POCSO Act

MARGAO

The 25-year-old cousin of the minor girl, who delivered a baby girl before she was abandoned last week at Margao, now faces charges of rape under provisions of the POCSO Act.

Colva Police station in-charge, PI Filomena Costa told The Goan that the Colva police has registered a case of rape and offences under the provision of the POCSO Act against the lad after a complaint lodged by women and child rights activist Auda Viegas.

PI Costa informed that the police will take the accused lad into custody after the expiry of his remand in custody with the Margao Police.

The Margao police had arrested the youth in the cases of child abandonment registered by the men-in-uniform after the child was found deserted at Sirvodem mid-last week.

The Colva police has come into the picture since the alleged sexual abuse of the 17-year-old had taken place at Benaulim around December last year, before she became pregnant.

The police is investigating.
