Vehemently opposing bail to the RTO officer Vaman Prabhu arrested at the Polem check-post on Wednesday, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (Vigilance) has told the South Goa Sessions court that the RTO officer is required in custody to find out the involvement of other RTO officers in the corrupt practices, even as the Court has remanded the accused officer to two days police custody.
The South Goa sessions Judge B P Deshpande, who heard arguments on the bail plea of the RTO officer on Thursday, will pronounce his order on Friday.
While the RTO officer through his lawyer, Adv Amay Prabhudesai has argued that there’s no need for any further custody of the RTO, even as he maintained that the sections invoked by the investigating agency are not applicable to the accused. The RTO officer had moved the Sessions court with a bail application late Wednesday night.
The ACB, Vigilance, however, has prayed to the Court to dismiss the bail application in the interest of justice and to enable the interrogation of the accused and investigation in the case.
The reply filed by ACB investigation officer, PI Gurudas Kadam stated that initial investigation has indicated that such corrupt practices have been regularly going on at the Polem check-post. “Hence, it is evident that more RTO officers are certainly involved in the corrupt practices”, the ACB said, while calling for the custodial interrogation of the accused RTO officer.
The ACB further alleged that being a public servant, the accused officer abetted the corrupt practices by allegedly allotting the task to the private security guard and the civilian, of collection of exorbitant amount of money from the transporters/vehicles on his behalf in an absolute illegal manner for pecuniary benefits.
