Greens red flagged the ongoing operation of trimming of trees along Margao ring road between Comba  subway and the Colva road, insisting that the contractor has cut down many trees along the road.

Activists Zarina Da Cunha, Kim Miranda, Crydon Madeira cried foul over the manner in which the authorities went about trimming of trees went about the work.

When they raised objections to the cutting down of trees along the ring road, those present at the site are believed to have fled away. Someone later came with a copy of the order issued  by the disaster  management agency to the various authorities on pre-monsoon works.

Activist Zarina told the media that what has taken place along the Margao ring road is not trimming, but murder of the trees by the administration. “We would like to know who has engaged the contractor and whether any timber mafia is involved in the murder of the trees”, she demanded to  know.

Activist Crydon Madeira echoed similar sentiments. He said the administration literally played cool when the  citizens were  trying to  complain of felling of trees along the ring road. “Let the Collector come and personally inspect the site and find out what  has been done along the ring road is trimming or felling of trees”, he demanded.

Activist Kim Miranda told the media that she came across the cutting down of the trees while returning home from Panjim when the road was  closed and traffic diverted. “What we actually saw at the site was a horror. Under the guise of trimming of trees as part of the pre-monsoon works, they have cut down the trees”, she said, while demanding that the district Collector Asvin Chandru order an inquiry into the matter.
