Social activists on Wednesday cried for freedom from the apathy and indifference of the authorities to the pathetic condition at the Osia Commercial complex housing a number of government offices.
In fact, activist Mahesh Dattaram Nayak and Pratima Coutinho made an fervent plea to the government to at least shift the government offices to the Matanhy Saldanha Administrative complex if they cannot ensure the upkeep and maintenance of the commercial complex.
Apart from the government departments, Mahesh pointed out that the situation at the Osia commercial complex is turning from bad to worse for want of upkeep and maintenance.
“The toilets are stinking. There is no proper parking for visitors to the complex. On the other hand, the SGDPA is planning to introduce pay parking on the PDA grounds”, Mahesh said, while urging the SGPDA to lay bare before the public the parking provision made by the Osia commercial complex for the visitors.
He and Pratima Coutinho highlighted the plight of the senior citizens visiting the government departments as they have to undergo the ordeal of climbing the steep stairs with the lift playing truant.
In her address, activist Pratima Coutinho pointed out that revenue generating offices such as the
RTO, sales and commercial complex, TCP, SGPDA are all located at the Osia complex, but lamented that the elevators are not working for the last so many years resulting in major hardship for citizens visiting these government offices.
“Senior citizens and disabled persons and others have to suffer pain to climb these steps and are facing inconvenience due to non functioning of the Elevators. Further, the building is hit by dog menace”, she said.
