Taking serious cognisance of the situation virtually putting the lives of school and college students to risk at the Comba railway crossing, Goa Forward Chief Vijai Sardesai has on Wednesday served an ultimatum on the government to take a call on construction of a flyover at the crossing or face an agitation by the students and parents after Ganesh Chaturthi.

Asserting that he decision of the government to build the Victor hospital-La Flor flyover a misplaced priority when a flyover at the Comba railway crossing is the need of the hour in the interest of the student community studying in the Comba education hub, the Fatorda MLA has warned of an agitation if the flyover at the crossing is not built on priority.

“Parents of school students studying at the Comba education hub have approached me on the issue as the railway gate is now frequently closed down for the movement of trains carrying coal. Thousands of students, right from KG (Kindergarten) to PG (Post graduation) are studying at the schools and colleges at Comba. A flyover at the crossing is the need of the hour. But, the government has decided to build the Victor hospital-La Flor hotel flyover first. Parents and the students will now allow this to happen”, Sardesai asserted.

He added: “Let us give the government time till Ganesh Chaturthi to do a rethink on the Victor hospital flyover. If the government fails to listen to the voice of the students and parents, we will hold an agitation at Comba”.

Pointing out that he had raised the issue in the just concluded session of the Goa Legislative Assembly session, Sardesai hoped that better sense will prevail and the government takes the Comba railway crossing flyover on priority to save and protect the lives of the students.
