In a major development which will ring in good news for the villagers of Chandor on the eve of Independence Day, the Town and Country Planning and Department (TCP) has revoked the Technical Clearance issued for the proposed construction of the controversial 28 residential villas and compound wall in Chandor village.
Town Planner S P Surlakar has issued an order revoking the technical Clearance for the villas issued to the Navi Mumbai-based M/S K K Group and Company, with a copy marked to the village Panchayat of Chandor.
Leader of Opposition and Cuncolim MLA Yuri Alemao as welcomed the order, terming the order as a people’s victory and victory for the people of Chandor.
The TCP had issued the Technical Clearance Order for the proposed construction of Residential Villas type 'A'(20 nos), type 'B'18 nos) and compound wall at property bearing Sy.no. 58/1 at Cavorim village. The TPC office subsequently received a complaint dated 24 June, 2024 pertaining to an alleged encroachment into property Sy.no. 59/1-A-2 belonging to the complainant, prompting the TCP to refer the matter to the TCP Board.
After examining the matter, the Town and Country Planning Board issued the direction to issue the show cause to the party and has asked for the withdrawal of technical clearance granted, if the technical clearance is found to have been obtained by misrepresentation of fact and by producing wrong plans and area statement etc.
Based on the decision, a show cause notice was issued to the company vide ref.no. TPM/34847/Cavorim/58/1/2024/5497 dated 2, July, 2024 directing to show cause within 15 days from receipt of this office as to why the Technical Clearance Order issued by this office dated 21, February, 2023 shall not be revoked and also directed to stop the ongoing construction work immediately.
The TCP, however, found the company’s reply dated July 12, 2024 unsatisfactory after it was observed that no specific clarification has been given with regards to encroachment and demarcation etc.
“Also since demarcation proceedings are still pending in Court of Inspector of Survey and Land Records, Margao under case по. 5/ISLR/DEM/SAL/CAVO/79/23, as such boundary of the property are not yet confirmed which may have adverse effect for the set backs maintained, thus the reply given by you is found to be unsatisfactory”, Town Planner Surlakar stated, while revoking the Technical clearance issued for the construction of the villas.
Meanwhile, Chandor villagers have thanked MLA and Leader of opposition Yuri Alemao for standing by the people of Chandor-Cavorim in opposing the mega project of 28 Villas in the village.
“We are grateful to our MLA for taking up the issue vigorously and following it up in the Assembly and thereby getting the project scrapped and saving the Heritage Character of our picturesque village. We congratulate the people of Chandor for being resolute in opposing the Mega project tooth and nail and saving our Chandor as a Village. We could win because our MLA, Yuri Alemao was solidly behind us”, stated a press note signed by representatives of Gaum Bhavancho Ekvott and Chandor Club who had submitted a memorandum to the Village Panchayat opposing the mega housing project.
