At the Thivim gram sabha held on Sunday, the locals demanded that all pet dogs in the panchayat jurisdiction be registered and that the local authorities conduct an anti-rabies vaccination drive on street dogs.
Acting Sarpanch and Deputy sarpanch Shivdas Kambli assured to take decision after studying the matter with the Street Dog Committee.
Josephine Pinto raised the issue of street dogs complaining that their numbers were increasing in the village.
“The villagers are fed up,” she said, demanding that in order to gain some control on this situation, all pet dogs in the village should be registered.
“After registration, both pet and street dogs should be handed over to the government’s anti-rabies scheme for vaccination,” demanded Pinto.
Replying to the query acting Sarpanch Kambli said a decision will be taken after discussing the matter during the Street Dog Committee meeting.
Pinto also raised the issue of law and order in the village and suggested the panchayat write to the PI urging him to submit a crime report during the gram sabha which will held in October.
However, some villagers took objection to this demand saying gram sabha is only meant to discuss development of the village and that only issue pertaining to development must be raised.
“If you want to know any information regarding crime from the police then you should seek information through an RTI act,” suggested a villager.
Various committees were also appointed during the gram sabha.
