VALPOI: The State health department will soon come out with free insulin facility, and also commission the new department of gastrology and oncology, said Health Minister Vishwajit Rane at the unveiling ceremony of Arogya Apalya Dari medical camp in Valpoi on Sunday morning. Talking about the medical camp, the Health Minister said, "it is a pilot project aided by specialist doctors in the town to facilitate rural people."
Vishwajaeet Rane also said the camp would boost the confidence of the government health sector, which has the support of Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar. Rural people should benefit from highly equipped medical facility as in cities and this is a pilot project to facilitate people in the rural areas, he added. Such type of camp will also be organised in Bicholim, Sanguem, the Health Minister said while assuring to propose for a special amendment in the upcoming budget session with the aim to have such camps in rural parts of the state. Speaking further he said, the government was mulling to waive renewal fee for Deendayal medical scheme.
Meanwhile, Vishwajit Rane also inaugurated a dialysis unit center to aid citizens of Sattari, Bicholim and parts of Usgao. It was a long pending demand of the residents of Sattari taluka as they had to travel all the way to Panaji, Mapusa or Margao for treatment.
Speaking at the function, Dean of GMC Dr Pradeep Naik said that in the last couple of months there had been tremendous development in the health sector owing to commendable decisions taken by the Health Minister.
Valpoi Municipal Council chairperson Parveen Shaikh, Vice chairman Sarfaraz Sayyed, Health Officer of Valpoi Dr Gajanan Naik, senior doctor Dr Shivanand Bandekar, Dental College Dean Dr Idon Noronha, and Dr John were present at the occasion.
Parveen Shaikh expressed happiness over Valpoi being selected for the pilot project. It was very much needed for people of rural areas, she said.
