Stating that there is not even a remote possibility of the Mini India Park at Quelossim becoming a reality, Cortalim MLA Alina Saldanha said the project cannot come up in the no-development zone (NDZ).
“The area in question falls in NDZ and is a wet land. Even the environment department has concluded on this,” Saldanha said even though she admitted that efforts are being made every now and then to promote the project.
Saldanha who celebrated her birthday on Saturday was speaking to reporters after inaugurating her office at Cortalim. Saldanha maintained that the office at Cortalim was supposed to be opened 6 months back, but was delayed for some reasons or the other.
Regarding the long delayed market complex, Saldanha said the contractor had promised her to complete the project by May 2016.
Earlier, Cortalim Parish Priest Fr Diogo Fernandes who blessed the office praised Cortalim MLA Alina Saldanha for her honesty, simplicity and her commitment to the poor. Poojari Amit Waginkar also blessed the office. South Goa MP Narendra Savoikar who was one of the dignitories at the function however arrived after the function was over and wished Saldanha on her birthday.
Sarpanchas, panchas and residents from Cortalim constituency attended the function.
The office which is situated near the Cortalim Market Complex will remain open from Monday to Saturday and Saldanha will be available at Cortalim office on Mondays from 3 pm and on Thursdays from 10 am to 2 pm.
